Eat of the Week
By: Ann Christenson
It's sort of spring, right? Even when the sky looks crummy, it feels like spring to me at Anaba Tea Room (2107 E. Capitol Dr.), the restaurant in the lower level of Shorewood’s The Garden Room. The tearoom took a one-month hiatus recently; during that time, head chef Gregg Des Rosier got a new stove and a little vacation in Key West. Back at it now, Des Rosier is cooking and baking up a storm. The spring menu is due in less than a month. Don’t start dreaming about it, though, because the existing one is not a bit shabby, especially considering Des Rosier’s daily specials (citron-marinated duck breast with roasted red chile broth and buckwheat noodles). He also has two soups (one vegan), sandwiches (wasabi chicken salad) and homemade desserts. You can eat your tea, as well as drink it. Desserts include pumpkin-chai crème brûlée and shortbread tarte with cranberries and plum-oolong glaze. Des Rosier just picked up an ice cream maker, so you can expect some à la mode options.
